JAIRO CAMPOS
CONDUCTOR
Mr. Jairo Campos serves as a orchestra conductor and double bass player in Guatemala of the Youth Orchestra of Querido Arte Opera de Guatemala and the program of the musical area of orchestral and choral practice of the Center for Artistic Improvement Querido Arte Guatemala. He has worked in music teaching, orchestral conducting, project management, coordination and musical administration, concert production and leadership of non-profit music organizations.
Mr. Campos was the first Guatemalan double bassist to play in "The World Orchestra" on tour in main music halls in South Africa, Spain, Durban, Cape Town, Petenberg Bay, East London. During his tours, Mr. Campos had the opportunity to collaborate with JG ZUMA Highschool (Nanda), East London school children and HEIDEVEL music therapy children. Mr. Campos’ pedagogy and musicianship has led him to impact many lives and invited in different opportunities to serve as conductor and music teacher in different places such as: The Music Foundation “Bariz Icin Musik” (music for peace) in Istanbul, Turkey; in which he developed the first festival of Choirs and Orchestras of Istanbul, "Project Social Impact", a program in which Mr. Campos focused on social change through art and music in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, and he was invited to participate in the CGIU seminar “The Clinton Global Initiative” University of Miami hosted by the Clinton family to discuss social change. Moreover, Mr. Campus was the recipient of the "Erik Barrondo" award, which seeks to highlight the top five musicians with the most artistic achievements in Guatemala.
Jairo Campos founded the first children's orchestra "Esperanza Azteca" in Nuevo San Carlos Retalhuleu, and invited as a guest conductor at the Youth Orchestra of Barinas in Venezuela, among other orchestras around the world.
His passion and expertise on social change through music has led him to represent his country in multiple occasions at many different programs around the world that are seeking to impact their communities with the power of music. One of this programs has been the famous "El Sistema" in Venezuela. His enthusiasm and love for music was recognized by Maestro Jairo Antonio Abreu, who also gave Mr. Campos his first double bass player.
As a double bass player, he has participated in different orchestras around the world like the “Teresa Carreño” orchestra, conducted by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, Central American Youth Orchestra and Choir "JOCCA", Festival Mercosur Orchestra in Santiago de Chile, Premier Orchestra Institute, which is a program of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Filarmonica Joven Latinoamericana in San Jose Costa Rica conducted by Tom Zelle, Mesoamerican Orchestra. Founder of the first Central American Double Bass Festival since 2018. Mr. Campos have been invited to performed as s soloist the Marimba Nacional of Guatemala.
