Frequently Asked Question

Q: How do I know which orchestra I will be placed in?

A: You will be placed in an ensemble based on your audition application. This is to ensure that practice parts can be distributed.  Once you arrive at POI, there will be a seating placement audition.

Q: Will I get the music to practice at home before POI starts?

A: Yes.

Q: I am in high school, is it possible for me to play in the Master Camerata?

A: Ensemble placements are based on ability and experience.  We have had college students playing in POI Virtuosi and high school students playing in Master Camerata.  Orchestral placement is based on how well you play, not how old you are.

Q: I attended POI in the past, should I assume I will have the same assignments and orchestral placement.

A: No – placement is based on your current ability level and the results of an  audition.

Q: What is the concert attire?

A: All black. No sneakers or tennis shoes, no jeans, no spaghetti straps or mini skirts, no t-shirts.

Women: black long skirts or slacks, black blouses or shirts (not sleeveless), black dress with sleeves, black shoes.

Men: black pants, black dress shirts (no jackets). Black socks and Black shoes.

Remember to keep your overall look neat and well-groomed. Avoid excessive accessories and flashy jewelry. Dressing professionally in all black attire conveys a polished and serious demeanor suitable for formal occasions and professional settings.
