DANIEL MAGALHÃES

Daniel Magalhães is a double bass player and music teacher who is passionate about playing and teaching his instrument. Mr. Magalhães has a degree in Music Education and a bachelor’s degree in double bass. He has dynamism and versatility in his performance and teaching of double bass for all ages group.
Fruit of the Projeto “Volta Redonda Cidade da Música” (ENG: “Volta Redonda City of Music” Project), a music-educational project developed in public schools in his city by and idealized by Nicolau Martins de Oliveira, Mr. Magalhães started on the double bass by the age of 12, with the renowneddouble bass performer and pedagogue Sandrino Santoro. Maestro Santoro played an important role in Mr. Magalhães education, guiding him for more than ten years, all the way to college. The Projeto “Volta Redonda Cidade da Música” presented Mr. Magalhães opportunities to perform with choirs, string orchestras, bass ensembles, in venues of national relevance in Brazil, like Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, Sala Cecília Meireles, Igreja da Candelária, Sala São Paulo, among others. Still as part of the orchestra of the project, he was under the baton Sarah Higino as the director of orchestral activities, and with important invited of important conductors like Roberto Tibiriçá, Ernani Aguiar, Carlos Eduardo Moreno, and Dr. Russell Guyver.
Mr. Magalhães has been an active participant of music festivals across Brazil, like Rio International Cello Encounter (RICE), that happens both in Volta Redonda, and Rio de Janeiro; Festival Música nas Montanhas (Poços de Caldas – BR), Festival Vale do Café (Vassouras – BR). In those festivals, Mr. Magalhães had classes with Ana Valéria Poles (principal bass of São Paulo Symphony Orchestra), Dr. Marcos Machado (professor of double bass at the University of Southern Mississippi), and Constantino Greco (I Musici de Montréal).
Mr. Magalhães holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education through the Conservatório Brasileiro de Música – CBM (ENG: Brazilian Music Conservatory) and a bachelor’s degree in Double Bass performance through the Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – UNIRIO (ENG: Federal State University of Rio de Janeiro), under the guidance of Antonio Arzolla. Hi is currently taking his Master’s degree in Double Bass performance under the guidance of Dr. Marcos Machado at The University of Southern Mississippi.
